Read and reflect
Read Psalm 139:23–24 in your Bible or on Bible Gateway.
“I have lost my job” is a fact. “I will never be useful again” is a conclusion about a future you cannot yet see. Both can feel equally convincing when you are hurting. Today, practise telling them apart.
Honesty includes naming your own choices. If you have caused harm, do not hide behind a difficult season. Equally, do not take responsibility for another person’s abuse or decisions. Truth is more precise than either blame or self-hatred.
The prayer in Psalm 139 invites God to search and lead. It is an invitation to become teachable. You can admit that you do not yet understand everything and still choose to act responsibly.
Today’s action · About five minutes
Make it practical.
- On paper, write one observable fact about the situation.
- Under it, write one feeling and one fear. Label them separately from the fact.
- Finish with: “One thing I need help with is…” Keep this private; you do not need to submit it.
One honest question
Which conclusion about myself am I treating as a proven fact?
You can think quietly instead of writing. Keep it brief; you do not need to revisit upsetting detail.
A prayer, if you choose
God, help me face the truth without excuses and without contempt for myself. Show me what is mine to own and where I need another person’s wisdom. Amen.
