Read and reflect
Read Romans 12:18 in your Bible or on Bible Gateway.
You may want to send a long apology, demand an explanation or finally say everything you have held back. Before making contact, consider whether it is welcome, safe and lawful. An urge to relieve your own guilt is not permission to cross someone else’s boundary.
Where an apology is appropriate, name your action without adding “but you…” Do not demand forgiveness or a reply. Changed behaviour matters beyond the words you choose.
Romans recognises limits around living at peace. You are responsible for your conduct, not for forcing a relationship to resume. If abuse or violence is involved, specialist advice and safety take priority over a reconciliation exercise.
Today’s action · About five minutes
Make it practical.
- Privately name one behaviour you need to stop, change or seek help with.
- Choose a boundary or a responsible action you can practise without contacting anyone.
- If considering an apology in a complicated or unsafe situation, seek appropriate advice first. Do not breach an order, request for no contact or safety plan.
One honest question
What would responsible change look like even if nobody praised or forgave me today?
You can think quietly instead of writing. Keep it brief; you do not need to revisit upsetting detail.
A prayer, if you choose
Jesus, give me humility to own harm and wisdom to respect boundaries. Help me pursue peace without controlling another person or returning to danger. Amen.
